Hadassah Medical Organization Opens Its First European Medical Centre in Cyprus
The Jewish Community of Cyprus was honoured to participate in a historic milestone with the blessing ceremony marking the opening of Hadassah Medical Center Limassol, the first official European medical centre of the renowned Hadassah Medical Organization, outside of Israel.
The ceremony brought together government representatives, healthcare professionals, business leaders, religious leaders, and distinguished guests from Cyprus and Israel to celebrate this significant development in healthcare and the growing partnership between the two countries.
A highlight of the event was the affixing of the mezuzah at the main entrance of the new medical centre by Chief Rabbi of Cyprus, Rabbi Arie Zeev Raskin. Addressing those present, Rabbi Raskin explained the meaning and significance of the mezuzah in Jewish tradition, emphasizing that it serves as a reminder of G‑d's presence and a symbol of blessing and protection for all who enter and leave the building.
Guests were given a tour of the state-of-the-art facility, which offers advanced diagnostic imaging, specialist consultations, laboratory medicine, rehabilitation services, and preventive healthcare. The centre combines cutting-edge medical technology with the expertise of the Hadassah Medical Organization, one of Israel's most respected healthcare institutions.
During the ceremony, Hadassah's leadership also presented its long-term vision for Cyprus, including plans for additional medical facilities in Nicosia and Limassol, as well as the development of a major healthcare park in Lakatamia. These investments reflect the organization's commitment to strengthening healthcare services on the island.
Founded in 1912 by Henrietta Szold, Hadassah, The Women's Zionist Organization of America, was established after Szold witnessed the urgent need for improved healthcare in the Land of Israel. Inspired by the ideals of the Zionist movement and supported by thousands of Jewish women across America, Hadassah was founded to build hospitals, train medical professionals, and improve public health for the growing Jewish community.
More than a century later, the Hadassah Medical Organization operates two world-renowned hospitals in Jerusalem, providing exceptional medical care to people of all backgrounds, religions, and nationalities. It has become an international symbol of medical excellence, humanitarian care, innovation, and the enduring values of the Zionist vision.
The official Grand Opening of Hadassah Medical Center Limassol is scheduled for 15 October 2026, with senior dignitaries from Cyprus, Israel, Greece, and the international Jewish community expected to attend.
The Jewish Community of Cyprus extends its heartfelt congratulations to the Hadassah Medical Organization and wishes the entire team continued success in bringing healing, hope, and world-class medical care to the people of Cyprus and the wider region.
