New Torah Scroll Welcomed into Larnaca’s Jewish Community
Larnaca, Cyprus 30.8.26 – Larnaca’s Jewish community welcomed a new Torah scroll in a moving celebration held on the eve of Rosh Chodesh Elul. The Torah was donated by the Lieberman family in honour of the local Jewish community and the Jewish people.
Members of the community took part in writing the final letters at the Jewish Cultural Centre, followed by a joyful procession through the streets of Larnaca to the Central Synagogue, accompanied by music, singing and dancing. The celebration continued with festive Hakafot and dancing around the new Torah scroll.
The evening concluded with a Chassidic farbrengen marking the month of Elul and the birthdays of the Baal Shem Tov and the Alter Rebbe, focusing on spiritual growth, Jewish unity and preparation for the New Year.
Rabbis and Chabad emissaries from across Cyprus joined community members of all ages for the celebration.
Chief Rabbi of Cyprus, Rabbi Arie Zeev Raskin, said: “This is another building block in strengthening the protective wall of Judaism and the unity of the Jewish people.”
The new Torah scroll will become an integral part of Jewish life in Larnaca, accompanying the community through Shabbat, festivals and the many milestones of Jewish life.

ספר תורה חדש התקבל בקהילה היהודית בלרנקה
לרנקה, קפריסין, 30.8.26 – הקהילה היהודית בלרנקה קיבלה ספר תורה חדש באירוע מרגש שהתקיים בערב ראש חודש אלול. ספר התורה נתרם על ידי משפחת ליברמן לכבוד הקהילה היהודית המקומית ולכבוד העם היהודי.
חברי הקהילה השתתפו בכתיבת האותיות האחרונות של ספר התורה במרכז התרבות היהודי, ולאחר מכן יצאו בתהלוכה חגיגית ברחובות לרנקה לעבר בית הכנסת המרכזי, בליווי מוזיקה, שירה וריקודים. החגיגות המשיכו בהקפות חגיגיות ובריקודים סביב ספר התורה החדש.
הערב הסתיים בהתוועדות חסידית לכבוד חודש אלול ולציון יום הולדתם של הבעל שם טוב ושל אדמו״ר הזקן, מתוך דגש על צמיחה רוחנית, אחדות יהודית והכנה לקראת השנה החדשה.
רבנים ושלוחי חב״ד מכל רחבי קפריסין הצטרפו לחברי הקהילה מכל הגילים לחגיגה המיוחדת.
הרב הראשי לקפריסין, הרב אריה זאב ראסקין, אמר: ״זהו נדבך נוסף בחיזוק חומת המגן של היהדות ובאחדות העם היהודי״.
ספר התורה החדש יהפוך לחלק בלתי נפרד מהחיים היהודיים בלרנקה, וילווה את הקהילה בשבתות, בחגים ובאירועים המרכזיים של החיים היהודיים.
