Chabad Cyprus Awarded before Rosh Hashanah

Letter by Rabbi Raskin 18.9.25

Dear Friend,

This week in Jerusalem, I was humbled to receive, on behalf of our community, the Magen HaShlichut Award from Israel’s Minister of Heritage, Rabbi Amichai Eliyahu. The award recognizes the selfless dedication of Chabad emissaries around the globe during a time of great challenge.

For me, this honour belongs not only to our shluchim team, but to every member and supporter of Jewish life in Cyprus. Over the past year, our island became a place of refuge for thousands of Israelis and Jews caught in crisis. With Hashem’s help, and with your support, we provided food, accommodation, and comfort. At the same time, we celebrated milestones of growth: welcoming a new Sefer Torah to Larnaca in memory of Captain Israel Yudkin HY”D, opening a new center in Latsi to serve the expanding Paphos region, marking the first year of King David School at its new campus, and completing projects like solar energy for our headquarters.

Cyprus may be a small island, but the light of Yiddishkeit here shines brightly. This is what the Rebbe envisioned—that every Jew, wherever they may find themselves, should have a home, a community, and a connection to Torah.

As Rosh Hashanah approaches, this message feels deeply relevant. The New Year calls us to look forward with strength, to renew our commitment, and to ask: What more can I do for another Jew? How can I bring light and hope right here, in Cyprus?

I warmly invite you to join us in this mission. Your partnership—through prayer, participation, and financial support—ensures that Jewish life in Cyprus continues to grow, thrive, and reach every soul.

From my family to yours, I wish you a Shanah Tovah U’Metukah—a year of health, joy, blessing, and peace. May we all be inscribed in the Book of Life, and may Cyprus continue to be a place of light, kindness, and community.

With warm blessings,
Rabbi Arie Zeev Raskin
Chief Rabbi of Cyprus
