Rabbi Yehoshua B. Gordon (1949-2016) was a master teacher, whose classes on chabad.org continue to bring the wisdom, inspiration, and joy of Torah to thousands every day. The director of a chain of 26 bustling Chabad Houses and Jewish institutions in California’s San Fernando Valley since 1973, and a personal mentor to many, he rose daily at 4 a.m. to prepare for his classes—making sure that each one was bursting with his signature humor, clarity, and love of learning. I miss. Josh a lot
At 70 years young, I just tripped across Rabbi Gordon and am completely blown away. He's a hook; it makes me hunger for more. Chabad, and being a Jew, is beyond incredible. Thank you, Rabbi Gordon, of blessed memory.
Amen. I've been listening to Rabbi Gordon for about 15 years. And every class, I learn something new.
I'm back to Rabbi Gordan. As I was a fresh Baal Tshuvah over a decade 15 years ago, when our beloved Rabbi Joshua Gordon z"l" was still alive and delightfully entertaining us as he dedicated his mornings to our daily shiyur of Torah, Tanya, and Mishnah Torah, I watched and listened to two years of Chumash Rashi, then the full year of Tanya. Now I'm finishing Daf Yomi, in the middle of Mishnah Yomi, and have taken on Mishnah Torah with Rabbi Gordon.
I now live in Israel with my wife, my son, and his family, many grandchildren, all Orthodox Jews. My background was very secular. Rabbi Gordon was a large part of sustaining my commitment to frumkite. B"H"
The Mishnah Torah journey is another long one, and with G-d's Blessing, I'll be there to the last recording and beyond.
If there is a meeting with people in Heaven with people we loved here on earth but we never had the pleasure and privilege of meeting, may I have the amazing good fortune to spend time with our Beloved R' Gordon.
I've been listening to and studying with Rabbi Gordon for 10 years or so. He was a blessing for many Torah students.
I have been watching and learning for about more or less 7 years. He has reached so many people.This implies this was his mission. Look how many lives he brought to the G-d of Abraham. B."H.
Good Morning! Just a note of thanks and appreciation for Rabbi Gordon. Learning with him is so fun. It’s so pleasing to hear him sing from the Torah, then translate to English, phrase by phrase,
to help those of us still learning Hebrew. His jokes, sweet and silly interspersed with the teaching. His welcome to later comers rather than chastising them. It’s always positive energy, making the message so much more clear. I listen to him every morning in the bath. Thank you and Baruch Hashem. Fondly, Melissa

What is Rabbi Gordon’s Yahrzeit? I love the idea of celebrating it. I plan to begin Rambam with him after I finish Daf Yomi this cycle.

I have been studying Chumash, Tanya, and Rambam only one chapter a day with all my other studies with other Rabbis, I always study with Rav Gordon first thing when I am done Davening in the morning. How blessed are we to have such a lovely, wise, hysterically inappropriate not MY inappropriate but, for Rav G's kind of inappropriate rated G. No pun intended. Cannot think of a better way to start my day. On his Yartzite, I dedicate a day of learning in his honor. Just feels like the right thing to do instead of ordering a whole 7 layer cake..LOL

I've listened to Rabbi Gordon's (zichrona livracha) two full annual cycles in Chumash. I'm on my third this year.
One full cycle of Tanya.
I just bought Rambam's Mishnah Torah to do that with him.
He is unique and uniquely wonderful.
I've been his student for over 30 years. He will never be replaced.
Rabbi Gordon's style of teaching has been a wonderful blessing to me. OBM
His wisdom combined with humor and masterful language is music to my soul.
I am able to listen to these classes on Apple Podcasts, but not on Amazon Music, so it doesn't work on my Amazon Echo. Could you add this podcast to Amazon Music?
One time I was listening to that day’s Parshah about Joseph trying to explain that he comes from “good stock” not “Woodstock”!! Lol,, Love that man!

I agree; I spend hours each day learning many Torah things. I still come back to Rabbi Gordon ZT"L every few years. He is magnificent, fun, intelligent, and more.
Great Jewish scholars . I am a secular Jew that barely remembers my Bar Mitzvah.
I must ask this question .
The Rabbi teaches what the Rambam teaches and what Rashi teaches. Is the Rambam
meant for the Sephardic Jews and Rashi for the Ashkenazi Jews ???
Or no , Both are for the education of all Jews.

You said it..! Both are education for anyone that wants to study Torah and understand it better.
The differences between Sephardim and Ashkenazim are specifically with regards to the practical rulings in Jewish law, where each communities follows the final conclusion of its respective rabbinical authorities.

I also barely remember my Bar Mitzvah and have no idea what Parsha it was. I am now Orthodox. Please don't hold that against me.
I am also considering learning Rambam, and I am nearly certain that Rambam is for everyone. My wife is Sephardic. And Sephardim are indeed much bigger "fans" of Rambam than Ashenazim. However, I believe both Sephardim and Askenazim see the limitations of Rambam, that is, the other Sages (Mepharshim) who have come late with the books on laws) and both groups have equal admiration and respect for the absolute giant that was and is Rambam.

I do not know you but I certainly related to what you said about Rabbi Gordon. What a masterpiece he is! I have been studying with him via internet for the last five years, studying the Chumash, Tanya and Rambam every morning. He is as much a part of my life now as he was when he was alive, when sadly I did not make his acquaintance. His, humor, demeanor, insight, lessons are vital to my daily growth both spiritually and physically. He is alive within me! And that my fellow Jew, Rich is a blessing to my life. It emulsifies me, his way, his teachings to develop within my own life to always be the best Jew I can be. I would have loved to have met him when his soul dwelled among us, you did! How blessed is that? Thank you Rich for sharing your memory. May it continue to propel you into the future. To life!!! BH

I learned Chumash Rashi with Rabbi Gordon for two full years and then did Tanya with him for an entire year. He was alive and responded to my emails. I'm back to doing my Shnayim Mikra with him. It is bittersweet to enjoy him and remember that he is no longer with us.
I now live in Eretz Yisroel, in Beit Shemesh, going to Kollel every day. Doing Daf Yomi. Rabbi Gordon is a very important part of my past and my life. May his Neshama continue to rise.

I do not know Rich if you will see this but I was reading posts and saw yours asking about the Rambam. Here is what I think: Anything you ever wanted to know about in one way or another is in the Rambam! So yes, study it.
what is the title and author of the book that Rabbi Gordon uses as illustrations for the Tabernacle parts, vessels and Kohen's garments
The version Rabbi Gordon uses is out of print, a similar edition is "The Mishkan by Rabbi A Biderman" available on store.chabad.org
I am shocked to learn he is no longer with us. Just discovered his lessons online.
They are great. I do not speak a word of Hebrew and yet I even love to hear his Hebrew
and then the English and then his New York humor regarding the meaning of many verses.
I will put up prayers for him for all he gave me.
I too was very saddened to hear of Rabbi Gordon’s passing. Thank goodness he left a trove of videos for us to watch. I converted to Judaism about 8 years ago and have so much to learn. I study with Rabbi Gordon just about every day .

He was a great teacher able to bring into the fold and light even those not born into the Jewish faith.
I am saddened by R. Yehoshuas passing. I think today is his 6th yarzit. MY his name be blessed.
I am so thankful for all his video/audios that he been archived for us to study.

Often, when I listen to him each day, I wonder why Hashem wanted him closer to Him.
It's one of the questions I look forward to having answered at 120.
