NEED
During the last decade, the Jewish communities on the Isle of Cyprus have come back to life, one after another. Everything began in 2003, when we arrived on the island with the objective of restoring the glory of these once vibrant neighborhoods, breathing new life in the local Jews and Israeli émigrés who live there, and illuminating Cyprus with the light of holiness, warmth, and love.
We work as the emissaries of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, who teaches that every Jew, regardless of his outlook or way of life, can come to connect to his roots and his traditions, visit our Jewish library, acquaint himself with the ancient customs of our people, and get a taste of some good hot Jewish meals. Yiddishkeit belongs to all of us.
The first Chabad center on the island was established in the city of Larnaca, near the airport. It operates all year round with much success. During the summer months, we run a Chabad House for tourists in the city of Ayia Napa, providing a variety of services to tens of thousands of Israelis who come there to spend their vacation. Each year, we have a "Sunday school" for local Jewish children, conduct activities focusing on the Jewish holidays, and pay "house calls" on businesses and offices in the cities of Larnaca, Limassol, and Nicosia.
During this time, Limassol's Jewish business community and the number of Israelis, native born Jews, and Jewish tourists from Israel and the world at-large have grown considerably. Business is good, and now the time has come for some Jewish light.
OBJECTIVES
The Limassol Chabad House will serve as a meeting place for Jews and Israelis to have coffee, some pleasant conversation, or participate in a Torah class. It will be "the Jewish home for all of us in Limassol".
The site will supply all Jewish services required by the local community: kosher food, a synagogue, Torah classes, joint Shabbos meals, and an attentive ear for guidance and direction in all things of a Jewish nature. Our hope is to reach every Jew with a smile and a warm and loving message that we are here to help them in both material and spiritual matters.
As we have seen in the Larnaca Chabad Center and in hundreds of Chabad Houses throughout the world, a permanent facility that provides a connection between a warm and friendly social meeting place and a home of Torah, holiness, and light can bring tremendous unity within the community and the Jewish People as a whole.
VISION
In light of the need, the thirst, and the great desire in the city of Limassol, our friend, Mr. Pinchas ben Reuven V'Manana, has agreed to establish a local Chabad House, a beacon of light in the city's center.
Recently, we have found an appropriate location that can permanently house our activities and serve as a multifaceted home for Jewish services and social events. We pray that we will merit to see G‑d's blessings in our handiwork, as we strive to bring greater spiritual light to the region, transforming it into a "abode for G‑d in the lower realms", a fitting place for His Divine presence to dwell, here in our physical world.
PLEASE JOIN US!
While the initial expenses are quite considerable, with G‑d's help, the Limassol Chabad House has opened its doors with complete faith and confidence that many more kindhearted friends and supporters will join us along the way, reaching their hands out to us and becoming active partners in our holy activities, both as participants and contributors, to kindle another point of light in the heart of Cyprus.
May G‑d bless all those who support this vital project with good health, long life, and much success in all their endeavors.
